Conflicts

If a student has a conflict with a volleyball commitment (game or practice) they should discuss it with their head coach as soon as possible. If the conflict is with another school commitment, this should be brought to the athletic director for a decision with advisement from school administration on how to move forward. School policy has been set for how to determine which school commitments a student should attend in the case of conflicts.

Cost

There is no cost for a student to attend tryouts for a team.

Based on last year’s costs, volleyball fees will be roughly $175.00 per athlete who makes the team. A specific fee will be determined and applied to each student’s PowerSchool account at the end of the season based on this season’s costs (officials, entry fees for tournaments) and the numbers of players on each team. If the team makes Provincials, Border Land School Division will cover all registration, transportation, and accommodation costs (if travel requires it) for that event.

Qualifying for Provincials

Teams need to win their Zone Championship to qualify for Provincials. A wildcard spot may also be available based on the MHSAA determined draws for provincials. A wildcard application will only be considered if a team makes the semifinals or final in zone playoffs. Wildcard games are played at a neutral site with the winner of that game qualifying for Provincials.

Missed Class Time

Students are expected to communicate their sport-related absences to each of their classroom teachers. They must plan with each teacher regarding how they will make up missed classwork.

Transportation

Competing athletes are expected to arrive and depart with the school team, not in their own vehicles. Students driving each other is NOT ALLOWED (BLSD Policy). If a parent would like to take their child home from an away game, these arrangement should be made with the WCMC general office before the team departs. Any student leaving an event with their parents must inform their teacher chaperone or head coach prior to their departure. Students will only be allowed to leave an event outside of Altona with another family under special circumstances.

All special travel arrangements should be made by one of the student’s parents or guardian with the school administrators during regular office hours (8 am - 4 pm) prior to the team departure.
